Congress candidate for Pulivendula byelection - Y S Vijayalakshmi

The Congress party has finalised its candidate for Pulivendula Assembly by-election keeping an end to speculations. The high command has choosen YSR's wife Y S Vijayalakshmi as it's candidate. YSR represented Pulivendula constituency for four times. After the sudden demise of YSR in chopper crash on September 2nd, speculation aroused on who would represent Pulivendula constituency. The high command has given top priority to YS Rajasekhara Reddy's family members by choosing Y S Vijayalakshmi as it candidate to fill the gap.
But, Y S Vijayalakshmi is not keen on contesting in elections or taking active role in politics. So, YS Jagan will meet Sonia Gandhi in a couple of days to discuss this issue.
The Opposition parties, including Telugu Desam, have earlier decided not to field any candidate if the Congress fielded anyone from Dr Rajasekhar Reddy's family.
Election Commission of India issued a notification Today, November 25th for Pulivendula Assembly bypoll which fell vacant following sudden demise of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. The polling would be held on December 19th and the last date for filing of nomination is December 2nd and scrutiny of nominations on the following day. Last date for withdrawal of nominations is December 5.
The total electorate of 1,86,446 comprises 91,358 male voters and 95, 888 female voters. There will be 218 polling stations in the constituency.Counting of votes will take place on December 23. Model code of conduct has come into force with immediate effect in Kadapa district.
